Swannanoa - Most people probably have not heard of this little town tucked in the mountains of Western, North Carolina. For professional musician, Dave Fowler, this place is where it all started…his hometown.
Even before Dave was born, there was proven evidence that his life would have a intricate and special purpose. At age 13, his mother was the victim of a horrible accidental shooting one Sunday afternoon, by the five-year-old little brother of her best friend while playing on the front porch. Dying 4 times, before stabilizing, her parents were told if their daughter lived that she would never have children. Obviously, God had another plan. She went on to birth 4 children, one being the first-born, Dave.
Dave got his start playing bass guitar in church playing with his family. Dave laughs, “I thought, how hard can it be to learn to play this thing? It only has 4 strings!” Self-taught, this extraordinary young talent began playing at local moose lodges. He eventually made the move to Nashville and the rest they say….is history! No doubt, Dave has lived the fairy-tale dream as a successful touring and studio musician making a name for himself that is recognized all over the world.
Fowler has toured with an impressive array of artists such as: Billy Bob Thornton (The Boxmasters), Dolly Parton, Tracy Lawrence, American Music Icon “Dr. John”, Lorrie Morgan, Chely Wright, Collin Raye, Cinderella, Billy Ray Cyrus, John Michael Montgomery, Edwin McCain, Ronnie Milsap, Rhett Akins, Jimmy Fortune, Helen Cornelius, Dottie West and The Artimus Pyle Band.
His studio credits include: Toby Keith, Micah Roberts, Lorrie Morgan, Collin Raye, Cinderella, and worked along side Bill Szymczyk (The Eagles).
He has appeared on numerous TV shows such as Jimmy Fallon, Billy Ray Cyrus - GAC TV Special, The View, Jay Leno, Music City Tonight, Barbara Mandrell TV Tribute, Grand Ole Opry Live, Fox & Friends and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. In 2012, Dave was honored with the responsibility of directing and hiring artists for the Presidential Elections.
Dave is also a noted producer and songwriter as well. He has served as Editor-in-Chief and Co-Owner of Bass Frontiers Magazine.
In 2023, Dave began a new adventure speaking in schools and churches doing music clinics to encourage kids to use music as an outlet for stress, anxiety, bullying and coping mechanisms. He is passionate about being a positive encouragement to the younger generation by sharing his story (30-90 minutes) and offering a Q&A session for the students afterwards. When asked why he wanted to start doing these music clinics Fowler responds, “I am at a point in my life that I really want to help others and give back… especially those who may be struggling. I want to offer hope to kids and let them know that social status does not define who they are. I want my story to encourage them to never give up on your dreams. I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities I have been given. Work hard and you can do anything you want to do.”
Dave is in the middle of writing his first book due in fall 2024 about his life story and short stories on the road.
